Boston Red Sox First
Baseman David Ortiz's New Era 59FIFTY Design Launches
Thursday, July 28 Andre Trenier of Tangible Thoughts Cap to Launch in October New Era Cap Co., Inc., the premier, global headwear designer, developer and manufacturer, announced that it will launch its next Capture the Flag 59FIFTY, designed by Major League Baseball's 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox First Baseman David Ortiz. The cap will be available at select retail stores Thursday, July 28th. Ortiz is the second Major League Baseball player to design a New Era 59FIFTY, he joins Roger Clemons in this honor. The Red Sox's Big Papi is a big hit on the field whether he's guarding first base or knocking balls out the park. Ortiz's got a big smile, makes big gestures and has joined the big league of celebrity designers who have worked with New Era to design their own 59FIFTYs. Ortiz is a loyalist with style, and his design is a homerun. The 59FIFTY is made of a black satin front and black linen mid and rear panels. A tribute through and through, Ortiz's cap highlights three of the most important things to him today, his mother, his country and his career -- the front embroidery calls out his championship team, the Boston Red Sox in red embroidery, and his team number "34" in a tonal black, while on the front lower left-wear side in a tonal embroidery is a silhouette of Ortiz in his signature homerun celebration stance -- two fingers pointing to heaven. On the right-wear side of the cap you can find his home country's, the Dominican Republic, crest with "DR" inscribed beneath it; while on the rear is a tribute to his mother, his Angel, and on the under visor is an embroidered replica of Ortiz's signature. The cap also features a check-patterned shirting material lining and as with all Capture the Flag collectors pieces, the cap will be featured in its own signature presentation box. "My fitted is about who I am, where I come from and what is important to me," said David Ortiz. "It shows my team and my country and then the tribute to my mother is the most important part of the hat -- my mom and I were very close, we had a similar personality ... passionate, personal ... got along with everyone -- I am like her a lot." The David Ortiz design will be exclusively available at Fenway Park, Rainbow Hill and Berkley Shoes (Boston); Union (New York City); Kicks (Chicago); Huf (San Francisco); Shoe Gallery (Miami); The Clubhouse (Kanata, Ontario); Kicks (Hawaii) and Fames and Playa Playa (Japan). New Era will sell David Ortiz 59FIFTY fitteds at www.neweracap.com beginning 12:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28th. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Jimmy Fund.
